Occupational Therapy Gross Motor Programme
Goal: To support children engage in mainstream sports
and integrate into society.
The Gross Motor Programme is designed to be effective and structured within a specific timeframe, focusing on measurable outcomes with clear goals. Where applicable, we use standardized tests to track progress. The program concludes with the child transitioning from therapy to participating in a community sport of their choice, empowering them to engage in mainstream activities rather than remaining in therapy. This ensures a smooth integration into the community while promoting continued physical development.
Integrating children with special needs back into the community after therapy is a crucial step in promoting their overall development and participation in everyday life. According to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) model, community participation is key to a child’s growth and success, as it emphasizes the importance of involvement in life situations beyond just therapy. Engaging children in community-based activities, such as mainstream sports, enhances not only their physical development but also their social integration and emotional well-being.
Programme duration:
We strive to help children achieve their goals and complete the therapy process as efficiently as possible, ensuring the duration does not exceed six months. Therapy may conclude earlier than 6 months if the child successfully integrates into a mainstream sport earlier. We recognize the immense value of early participation in community sports. If additional support is needed beyond the program’s timeframe, we will collaborate with families to discuss and plan for any further assistance required.
